I read Evermore a while back and enjoyed it. I decided to pick it up, read and review it and Im glad I did. I didn't enjoy it this time. I found it to be a story that could have been beautiful, its got all the tools for a great story but there were so many things that I couldn't get past. Evermore is the story of Ever, a girl who lost her family in a car crash, and is trying to get by. She's dealing with being the only survivor, and not knowing why..not to mention she's got this "gift" of reading peoples minds since the wreck though for Ever is feels more like a curse.
Then walks Damon...the mysterious bad boy every good paranormal romance has, and chaos ensues from there.
This story could work for me..here's why it didn't...
I don't connect to Ever. She seems a bit weak, her personality is not strong and to me she fits the definition of the less than flattering term of "wet blanket".
She falls in love with Damen without knowing anything about him even though all signs point to him being devious and secretive.
I don't connect to Damen either, his character lacks a certain sincerity.. maybe he's meant to though.. there's a statement he makes about not being good at love, so maybe he was meant to be someone who wants to be good to feel strongly but never really does it wholeheartedly..
I did love Riley, which I've mentioned before..she is Ever's spunky little "ghost" sister who died in the crash but can't seem to stay away..she was funny and really was what made me hold on the story.
My lack of connections to characters aside, I do believe Alyson Noel has a beautiful imagination, and is a great storyteller.
I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
